Synopsis

The story takes place in a county in Henan. One afternoon, court employee Xiao Hu rides a motorcycle into the inconspicuous Xin Qiao Village. Xiao Hu’s purpose is to deliver a subpoena to a villager named Xin Guoshun, who has been sued for debt. Unexpectedly, Xin Guoshun has already left the village to work elsewhere. Xiao Hu then finds Xin Guoshun’s brother, Xin Guosheng, to inquire about his whereabouts. Xin Guosheng is an honest farmer. When Xiao Hu knocks on the door, Xin Guosheng is feeding the pigs.
